We are experiencing a server downtime, due to an unexpected hardware problem. We will keep updating here. Currently there is not an estimated recovery time. At this moment we are restoring data, so there might be a 12 hours loss of data on Timelines.

01:30am EST update: database is now being restored - current restore progress - 30%
01:42am EST update: current database restore progress - 60%
02:00am EST update: database is restored, server is now restarted.
02:04am EST update: Website is back, up and running.

Server crash recovery

We would like to apology for being down this weekend and for some data loss, resulting from a server failure. We are working hard to restore our system, and will keep updating this post about the results. Please read more for full details.

First, we would like to apology for a serious downtime experienced yesterday. We are working hardly to restore our system, but unfortunately some data cannot be recovered. Please contact us at info[at]allofme.com if you have any requests regarding this downtime or data loss. We are still in Beta, and unfortunate failures like this do happen though we try, of course, to minimize the damage.

Here are the complete details:
Our main server, hosted in the US, suffered a severe failure, which called for a complete hardware change. As a result, AllofMe was down for more than 24 hours. After we got a new server, we needed to restore data from the old one. At that point we discovered that some data was lost during backup. Our engineers are now working around the clock trying to restore the missing data.

There are some other issues that still need fixing:
- Emailing system (beta invitations) is not fully recovered.
- Twitter and Flickr cannot authorize at this point.
- Asset links inside widgets sometime don't work.

We will keep updating this post. Please feel free to leave comments about other issues.

Building your personal Timeline is easier than ever. Type your name in the new search box and see results from various sources, including Google, Yahoo/Flickr, Live, YouTube and more.

You can type anything else, of course, not only your name. Try typing fields of interest and see a large variety of great assets ready to fill-up your Timeline. AllofMe search is now available to AllofMe registered users directly in their Timelines, as well. When viewing search results, you can open each result's balloon and easily add to your timeline.

Manage your contacts in AllofMe

One of AllofMe's great features is the ability to share assets between friends. For doing this, you first need to invite friends to use AllofMe. Once they approve your invitation, you should manage your contacts in groups - and the sharing fun begins!

To manage your groups, simply click on "My Network" (above the Timeline). The group management panel will open:

From now on, it's very simple: You select a group from the list, select user/s from the left pane and then assign the selected user/s to a group from the dropdown list on the right. You can create new groups and remove groups and users. There are two special groups, which have an assigned functionality: "Pending" - lists all the users that you invited, but still didn't approve your invitation. "Not in group" - lists all users that you haven't assigned a group yet. For example, your brother Danny requested you to be his friend in AllofMe. You approved his request and now Danny appears as "Not in group". Normally you want to assign Danny to your Family group.

The future of history research

Timeline is the obvious view for exploring historical events. How about comparing timelines in parallel?

We are all accustomed to viewing timelines. It gets more complicated, yet intriguing, to compare timelines. Imagine comparing your own life timeline, with a timeline of historical events of your country, or simply to a timeline of your favorite sports team. With AllofMe, that's exactly what you will be able to do, but much more.

Here is a nice example, where you can compare the timelines of the winter vs. summer Olympic games. That's an obvious one. It's quite interesting, though, as these timelines fit each other like piano keys. but there are less intuitive comparisons, almost never being possible to view until now. How about comparing the The history of art vs. architecture? This is a less obvious comparison. It mashes up between two forms of art, yet it enables us exploring history from a cultural viewpoint. Go back to 1957 and compare Van Der Rohe's Seagram building with Rothko's "Red, Brown and Red" painting. Did these two guys ever meet each other? Surely it seems that their work did...
